My Experience

Growing up I came to understand first-hand how challenging school can be not realising I had dyslexia found the whole education process very challenging. Going through this I feel I have first-hand appreciation of some of the anxiety and emotional distress school can have on emotional wellbeing. I know and am confident that this makes me strong in relating to young people who may find education problematic.

Looking for a competent therapist, you will be relieved to know I was successful in achieving a psychology degree, largely driven by a passion for understanding why we as humans behave and respond to situations in the way we do. Further to this degree I then went on to secure a Master’s in social work leading me to a career working therapeutically in child protection services and with looked after children. It is in this area of work I developed strong skills in helping to form strong relationships and how to engage often hard to reach and resistant clients.

With a desire to move further into therapeutic work I began working within CAMHS service in 2016 as part assistant service manager and part senior CBT practitioner.  Qualifying as an IAPT CBT therapist I am confident and experienced in working with a wide range of challenges. I am comfortable and experienced in working with clients with PTSD, trauma, OCD, social anxiety, and health anxiety. It is always exciting to guide clients move through their journey of recovery.

It is important to note, whilst my full-time work has largely been working with young people, I am experienced in working with adults also. It is my private practice that I am working with adults of a range of mental health difficulties and have a huge success in the promotion of good health and recovery.

Further to CBT intervention, I have a holistic and integrative approach using a wealth of previous training. This includes a wide range of theoretical approaches and models, including Attachment Theory, Psychodynamic, Transactional Analysis, Gestalt and many more.

WHO I WORK WITH

I work with anyone over the age of 11. With young people, I am happy to work however the client feels most comfortable. This may be on their own or with the support of a trusted adult. I work with all forms of psychological distress. I have specific training (CBT) in working with the full range of anxiety disorders and depression. I am also pleased to work with those who are dissatisfied with life and wish to ‘work on themselves’ and those who find difficulties in one or more of their relationships.

Many of the people I see have experienced trauma or anxiety in their lives and I am confident in supporting them in these areas.

THERAPEUTIC APPROACHES

My approach to working therapeutically draws on my training in CBT also offering the basic conditions of Empathy, Genuineness and Acceptance. My CBT training provides a large set of strategies and techniques which can be drawn upon when needed and included in the individualised approach.
